Road Trip with Sam...

Although Matt and I have told Sam over and over and over again that all she has to do is ask, it is still very seldom that she will actually come out and ask us to do anything for her.  Yes, we've learned her well enough to know when she needs something (even without her asking), but we want her to be comfortable enough to just...ask!  But...she actually did ask me to help her make the drive back to Miami from her clinical so Matt and I made it happen.

Last Monday morning I got up at 3:45 AM and boarded an airplane at 5:10 AM headed to Baltimore to meet Sam...

Sam left Boston on Saturday and spent the weekend with her cousins in New York.  The earliest I could get to New York on Monday was noon so we decided for her to drive 4 hours that morning while I flew and meet in Baltimore.  Relieved our plan had worked logistically and happy to jump in the car with this favorite big girl of mine!  Our plan was to make it 9 hours to Savannah...

Due to Hurricane Matthew, we had to change our route due to interstate closures.  Thankfully it only made our drive about an hour longer.  After traveling through the "wilderness" on back roads through North Carolina, we realized there was no power.  We finally found a gas station with gas/power and decided it was going to be gas station food for dinner.

We choked down some of this...at this point, we were so tired that we were just focusing on getting to Savannah.  We finally made it to Savannah around 11:45 PM.  It was a LONG and TIRING day, but we made the most of it and managed to have fun!

Ready for day 2...and at this point, ready for some "real" food. Pretty sure that Cracker Barrel breakfast has never tasted so good.

By mid-morning, we crossed the Florida state line.  That doesn't mean much though...we spent the entire day just driving through Florida to get to Miami.

Tuesday was for sure not as long of a day...we were in Miami by 4:30 PM and having an early dinner at Sam's favorite place.  After dinner, we went for a walk on the beach.

Pretty sunset, fresh air, and stretching our legs...just what we needed!

Loved getting to spend a few days with this special girl...

As luck would have it, two blocks from Sam's house her car started making a weird noise.  So...before I flew out Wednesday I wanted to go with her to the dealership to make sure everything was ok. We were there at 7 AM only to find out Sam had run over a coat hanger that had wrapped around her axle.  They removed the hanger, it had not caused any damage, and and we were done by 8 AM.  Since we had extra time, we felt the need to treat ourselves to a pedicure before I had to be at the airport.  And just look at this place...isn't it awesome?  I had gone in December and was dying to go back...

I was walking through the airport in my own little world exhausted from the trip and a little nauseous from the flight and these two precious little ones jumped out from behind a column and surprised me.  Always hard to leave Sam, but I do LOVE coming home to these precious little ones of mine!!!

We didn't go anywhere "cool" but when we ran in Target, Sam picked out a mask for Cooper...he loved it!!!

And you know...this is just how we roll.  Love these boys of mine!

Sam is actually flying her on the 27th for a long weekend, and we CANNOT wait to spend a few days all 5 of us together.  We haven't all been together since May...she is ready to see the boys, and I'm pretty sure they are ready to see her too!!!  Counting down the days until she comes...
